New Position Papers

ACAHM has published two new position papers to support accredited and pre-accredited programs in managing school closures and monitoring timely student completion. These position papers are available in the Position Papers section of the ACAHM Resources page.

Summary

ACAHM has issued the following position papers, effective April 10, 2026:

  • School Closure Guidance (for Students) – Provides information for students impacted by an institution or program closure or teach-out.

  • Maximum Time Frame for Completion – Articulates the Commission’s expectations regarding the establishment, implementation, and periodic review of institutional maximum time frame policies for completion of ACAHM-accreditable programs. The paper underscores the need to balance appropriate flexibility with ensuring that students’ didactic and clinical preparation remain current over time.

Intended use by institutions

These position papers are intended to inform institutional policy and practice and to promote greater consistency across ACAHM-accredited and pre-accredited programs. Institutions are encouraged to review the documents in conjunction with applicable ACAHM standards and policies, as well as relevant federal, state, and institutional requirements.

The School Closure Guidance paper may be particularly useful when developing or revising teach-out plans, student notifications, and related communication protocols. The Maximum Time Frame for Completion paper may assist institutions in aligning academic progression, satisfactory academic progress, and completion policies with the Commission’s expectations.
